Her idols include Catherine Freeman, Melinda Gainsford-Taylor and actress Julia Roberts. Sally changed her surname from McLellan to Pearson following her marriage to Kieran Pearson in early 2010.
A typical week in the life of budding Olympic athlete Sally Pearson.
The 25-year-old world hurdles champion shares the routine that is
helping her dominate her field in the lead-up to the 2012 Olympics.
Exercise
I train six days a week and have a pretty full-on schedule that
includes at least five track sessions, two gym sessions and two in the
pool. I'm a sprinter, so each session is between one-and-a-half and two hours of quality, rather than quantity, training. At
the track, I do full-on sprint and hurdle sessions that sometimes make
me vomit. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday I do two sessions a day. On
Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday I do one session.
Food
When I'm in competition season, I really need to look after myself
and make sure I’m eating the right amounts. I tend to eat too much, so
it’s important I keep my portion sizes down. For breakfast I
usually have a bowl of cereal, for lunch it's usually a salad sandwich
and for dinner it’s meat and vegetables or meat and salad. I eat fruit
for morning and afternoon tea.
Beauty
I don't really wear any make-up during the day; it just sweats off
during training. If I'm going out, I’ll wear a little foundation and
maybe a bit of mascara and blush, but I’m not really very particular
about what I use. I don’t use a cleanser – I just wash my face with water – but I moisturise twice a day.
Relaxation
I travel so much for competitions so I just love being at home and
relaxing in front of the TV with my husband and my dog, Oscar. I'm away
about four months of the year, so it's important to be at home with
family and my dog. I also like to go out with my husband for dinner and a movie. It's clichéd, but I don’t get to do it very often.
