This was a very proud moment for me, as i have never won the 100m before i have only ever come 2nd or 3rd but i really pushed myself and it payed off. The race was neck and neck the whole way we were side by side and i just got to the finish first it was very close race with the time being point 4 of a second between us.

Sprint drills to improve speed

Skips For Height
'Skips for Height' are just like the traditional skipping motions, but without the skipping rope. With each skip, spring up yourself as high as possible. Give a force with your arms when you are ready to go off ground. This would help you move higher in the air.

Uphill running
Run up reasonably steep hill as fast as you can and then slowly jog down. Repeat about 10 times.

Butt Kickers
From a jog, the lower leg is allowed to swing back and to bounce off the buttocks. The upper leg should not move much. Place emphasis on allowing (not Forcing) the heel to come up to the butt.

Start And Sprint
From a stationary position, start quickly, and feel the power being applied behind your body. Ten yards out, quickly shift from running in the back of your body to sprinting in front of the body. This drill should emphasize the difference between starting technique (behind the body) and sprinting technique (in front of the body)

High Knee Drill
In a quick foot ladder, have the athlete sprint through the ladder as fast as possible, touching one foot in each rung of the ladder. Emphasize high knee lift and quick ground contact. One time through the ladder is one set.

Sally Pearson

Sally Pearson is an Olympic runner who does many different events but specializes in 100m and 100m hurdles.
Here is a link from when she won gold at the London 2012 Olympics Games.

Personal bests
  • 100 metres – 11.14 s (2007)
  • 200 metres – 23.02 s (2012)
  • 100 metres hurdles – 12.28
Sally was born in Queensland on the 19 of September in 1986.
Sally started athletics seriously after moving to Queensland from Sydney, where she had participated successfully in swimming and gymnastics. Her idols include Catherine Freeman, Melinda Gainsford-Taylor and actress Julia Roberts. Sally changed her surname from McLellan to Pearson following her marriage to Kieran Pearson in early 2010.

A typical week in the life of budding Olympic athlete Sally Pearson.
The 25-year-old world hurdles champion shares the routine that is helping her dominate her field in the lead-up to the 2012 Olympics.
Exercise
I train six days a week and have a pretty full-on schedule that includes at least five track sessions, two gym sessions and two in the pool. I'm a sprinter, so each session is between one-and-a-half and two hours of quality, rather than quantity, training. At the track, I do full-on sprint and hurdle sessions that sometimes make me vomit. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday I do two sessions a day. On Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday I do one session.
Food
When I'm in competition season, I really need to look after myself and make sure I’m eating the right amounts. I tend to eat too much, so it’s important I keep my portion sizes down. For breakfast I usually have a bowl of cereal, for lunch it's usually a salad sandwich and for dinner it’s meat and vegetables or meat and salad. I eat fruit for morning and afternoon tea.
Beauty
I don't really wear any make-up during the day; it just sweats off during training. If I'm going out, I’ll wear a little foundation and maybe a bit of mascara and blush, but I’m not really very particular about what I use. I don’t use a cleanser – I just wash my face with water – but I moisturise twice a day.
Relaxation
I travel so much for competitions so I just love being at home and relaxing in front of the TV with my husband and my dog, Oscar. I'm away about four months of the year, so it's important to be at home with family and my dog. I also like to go out with my husband for dinner and a movie. It's clichéd, but I don’t get to do it very often.

Best Shoes For Best Performance

There are many different types of shoes for different events in track and field.
http://www.eastbay.com/Womens/Track-Field/Shoes/_-_/N-1qZ1hgZne?cm_sp=TopNav-_-Shoes-_-WomensTrack
That site has a range of different shoes for track and field and also lots of sportswear.
My personal favourite brand is nike they have a range of great performance spikes with a large range of colours. There are many shoes that suit different events such as spikes suit the sprinting events because they strictly meant for just sprinting, you also use them for some field events too such as long jump, triple jump, javelin and pole vault etc.

My Athletics

Hi my name is Taylah, i am 17 and have a passion for athletics (track and field) i have been doing Little Athletics since i was 12. I am currently on my last season of Little Athletics which is sad because i have done it for so long, made so many friends which are like my family and i will also miss the thrill of racing.
My ultimate dream would be to go to the olympics and do 100m hurdles and 100m sprint just like my idol Sally Pearson.
